Associate Professor Cosmin Popa, Ph.D.

Associate Professor Cosmin Popa, Ph.D., is the head of the Department of Counseling, Career Guidance and Informing Students (DCCGIS) from George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mures. He has a Ph.D. in Psychiatry, title obtained in 2013 at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) in Targu Mures. His research domains are related to the application of cognitive-behavioral therapeutic (CBT) intervention in the treatment of schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, personality disorders and various dysfunctional cognitive processes involved in psychopathology. From the perspective of psychological education and counseling, he was also implicated in different research projects linked to the understanding of medical student’s personality profile, along with the efficacy of CBT for anxiety and/or depression in the academic setting. At the same time, he is specialized in clinical psychology and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. He achieved his certification in these fields after completing both national and international training or courses, the latter at one of the most important institutes in the world, namely the Beck Institute for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Philadelphia, USA. His area of expertise/psychotherapeutic experience includes cognitive and behavioral psychotherapeutic interventions in a multitude of psychopathological spectrum problems, such as: major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders (panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, specific and non-specific phobias), obsessive-compulsive disorder and psychotic disorders. However, with predilection, his area of expertise concerns the treatment of personality disorders and their associated psychopathology.
