Laura Barcutean is a teaching assistant of neurology at the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology „George Emil Palade” of Targu Mures (UMFST) and a junior neurologist in the Neurology 1 Clinic in the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Mures. She joined the Neurology 1 Clinic team in 2014 as a resident doctor, and one year later, she was admitted as a teaching assistant in neurology. In 2015 she enrolled the doctoral studies and obtained her PhD degree in 2019 under the mentorship of prof. dr. Rodica Balasa with the thesis “ Immune response heterogeneity and clinical evolution of multiple sclerosis patients treated with interferon beta over a decade”. In 2018, Laura was the beneficiary of an ERASMUS+ Scholarship in the Hospital Vall d’Hebron: Center for Multiple Sclerosis of Catalunya (CEMCAT), Barcelona, Spain, where she worked alongside esteemed MS researchers. In 2022 she became the recipient of a post-doc grant offered by the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding with the topic of microbiome implications in MS. She mentored 7 students for their bachelor’s degrees. Besides academic and clinical interests, Laura is currently enrolled on master’s studies in the field of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (at UMF Cluj Napoca) and fancies graphical design as her hobby, works that are highlighted in ISI-indexed publications.
